What information is needed when applying for a library card?

An applicant may sign up for a free library card on our website or in person with proof of identity and current address. To receive a library card, an applicant must provide picture identification, such as a valid state-issued driver’s license or ID, military ID, school or work ID card, passport, or any other official picture ID.  If the applicant has an out-of-state driver’s license or other photo ID, the photo ID must be accompanied by one of the following proof of residency: postmarked piece of mail, lease, deed, utility agreement, voter or car registration, insurance card, or pay stub all with the applicant’s name and address.


Who qualifies for a free library card?

Library cards are available free of charge to any Juniata County resident as well as any resident of Pennsylvania. 


How many items can I check out on my card?

  • Up to 10 DVDs and/or Blu-ray discs
  • Up to 50 books

What are the loan periods for library materials?

  • DVDs: 3 weeks
  • Books, Magazines, Audio Books: 3 weeks
  • Libby (downloadable) eBooks: up to 3 weeks
  • Libby (downloadable) eAudiobooks: up to 3 weeks

Are there differences in what adults and juveniles can check out?

Adults and Juveniles may check out any circulating item available.


How many times can I renew an item?

Items can be renewed twice unless someone else has placed a hold on the item.  You can renew an item in person or over the phone, with the assistance of library staff.  You can also renew online at https://juniata.chilipac.com/r1s/eg/opac/home.  Click the My Account link, log in to your account, and choose Items Out tab. Then select what items you would like to renew.


Where can I pay fines? What form of payment does the library accept?

Payment for fines may be made in-person. We accept cash, credit, debit, and checks. 


What other fees does the library charge?

  • $1.00 for replacement cards
  • $0.25 per page for all black & white copies/ computer printouts
  • $1.00 per page for all color computer printouts
  • $1.25 per page for outgoing and incoming fax service

Can I suggest that the Library purchase a particular title?

Yes, the Library regularly purchases new releases and best sellers in all formats but if you are looking for a book, e-book, DVD or other items that we don’t currently own you can Recommend a Title for purchase.


How can I review information on my Patron account?

Patrons may review information specific to their account by accessing the Juniata County Library catalog online. When prompted, type in your library card barcode and PIN/password established when you received your library card. If you are unsure of your PIN, please contact the library and it can be reset. Once you are logged in select the Account Preferences tab to see information specific to your account.


Can out-of-town visitors to the library access the Internet?

Visitors may use a guest pass to access our public computers for no fee. Wi-Fi is available throughout the library building requiring no I.D. or password.


How can I get a replacement library card?

Please visit us and bring photo identification and other proof of residency. The replacement fee is $1.00 for any patron card. Your record will be updated and your original library card will no longer work. If you suspect your card has been stolen or lost, your library card can be blocked so that it can’t be used to check out any materials.


Is the building accessible to patrons with disabilities?

The Juniata County Library is handicap accessible. There is a handicapped parking space right in front of the library and a wheelchair-accessible entrance with an automatic door opener at all entrances. The lower level may be accessed by parking by the Historical Society.
