2016-2020 Strategic Plan for the Juniata County Library

Between 2014 and 2016 our staff and board of trustees began with community interviews. The results helped us form a base for the plan. We then scanned the surrounding area in an effort to better understand who uses our library (and who may not). From there we identified our strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats to continued sustainability. Finally, we outlined 3 main goals and several objectives to help achieve them.

The following are three immediate goals to better place the library in our community:
  1. Get every student in Juniata County a library card. This includes public, private (JMS), and home school students. Tumblebooks and eBooks can be accessed in all classrooms and with a card each student will have access to our resources after school.

  2. Keep our technology up-to-date. This can be seen with the new computers, printers, and other devices added or updated. Coming soon we will be using Square to allow us to process credit card payments.

  3. Outreach to various communities. Our plan, in general, is aimed to reach groups that may not know what the library has to offer. We will focus on the Hispanic community, Senior and Retirement centers, and Lifelong Learners of all ages and backgrounds.
We are proud of all we have accomplished in our 50 years of existence and excited to see this plan unfold!
